ACTIVE DIRECTORY
ACTIVE DIRECTORY SET UP AND PASSWORDS
• Maximum of 4000 entities (number of users plus number of
groups must be less than 4000).
• Maximum of one Active Directory server.
• The Time and Date of the Active Directory server and the
DataGuard must nearly match (within a few minutes of each
other).
• The NetBIOS Name is the NetBIOS Name of the AD Domain. For
example: Open “Active Directory Users and Computers”, right
click on the domain and choose “properties” and the NetBIOS
Name will be displayed on the General tab by “Domain name
(pre-Windows 2000)”.
• The AD Domain entry is the Active Directory Domain name.
This can be determined by Open “Active Directory Users and
Computers” and viewing the Domain Name listed at the top of
the tree.
• The Domain Controller is the IP address of a Domain Controller
or, alternatively, can be the Fully Qualified Domain Name
(FQDN).
• The Administrator Account is the name of an account that has
administrative permission on the domain. Note that a Domain
Administrator is not the same as a NAS Administrator.
• The Administrator Password is the password of the user entered
in the Administrator Account.
• Permissions will be applied to all Users imported to the
DataGuard from the AD Domain.
• AD Domain Users are imported to the DataGuard upon joining
the DataGuard to the AD Domain. If Users are added to
the AD Domain, then use the Resync button located on the
Administration tab > NAS User page.

1. All share names, user names, administrator names,
and passwords must not exceed 16 characters.
2. DataGuard administrator name and password can
use any characters.
3. DataGuard user names must lead with an alpha
character and must contain only alpha-numeric
characters or the underscore (_).
4. DataGuard user passwords can use any character.
5. DataGuard share names must contain only alpha-numeric
characters, the dash (-), the underscore (_), or the period (.).
6. Active Directory administrator name and password, and
the Active Directory user names and passwords must
obey the above plus all Windows rules. Some systems
fail to connect when special characters are used in the
AD administrator’s password, so, if a failed connection
is experienced and special characters have been use, try
again without using special characters.
7. Active Directory share names must use alpha-numeric
characters, the dash (-), the underscore (_), or the period (.).
